Webroot Spyware
In 2002, Webroot launched a spyware blocking and removal product called Webroot Spy Sweeper.[3] The company introduced antivirus protection with the launch of Spy Sweeper with AntiVirus in 2006.[4] In October 2007, Webroot AntiVirus with AntiSpyware and Desktop Firewall was released with added firewall protection feature.[5]

Webroot entered the enterprise market in 2004 with the launch of Webroot Spy Sweeper Enterprise, which combined Spy Sweeper with technology that enables IT administrators to deploy antispyware protection across an entire network.[6]
In May 2010 Webroot announced plans to open its international headquarters in Dublin, Ireland.[10] In July 2010 Webroot Internet Security Complete 2011 was released, including antivirus and antispyware protection, firewall capabilities, online back-up, password management licensed from LastPass, protection against identity theft and credit card monitoring for US customers.[11]
In December 2009, Webroot announced a partnership with virtual private network software provider AnchorFree. A version without advertisements of AnchorFree's VPN software with protection via Webroot's antivirus and antispyware software was produced.[21]
Despite its name, the term "spyware" doesn't refer to something used by undercover operatives, but rather by the advertising industry. In fact, spyware is also known as "adware." It refers to a category of software that, when installed on your computer, may send you pop-up ads, redirect your browser to certain web sites, or monitor the web sites that you visit. Some extreme, invasive versions of spyware may track exactly what keys you type. Attackers may also use spyware for malicious purposes.
I don't know where is the problem, whether it's in Webroot's SpySweeper (latest version, spyware definitions up to date) or if AutoIt V3 (latest version downloaded on 2005/07/29) has the trojan horse detected by SpySweeper, but even after downloading a fresh version of Autoit V3 from your site, if I start a scan, SpySweeper points every time to AutoIt3.exe, signals the presence of a Trojan horse and wants to remove AutoIt3.exe and every link pointing to it !
Email Systems has at least 1,500 business clients worldwide. Boulder-based Webroot, which also is privately held, offers security software to businesses and consumers worldwide and is known for its Spy Sweeper anti-spyware software.
In addition, it promises anti-spyware protection, real-time threat protection, and more. The firewall takes the program to the next level because it's hard to find Mac antivirus software with that kind of power.
Products like Webroot AntiVirus and Webroot Internet Security Complete thwart dangerous malware before it can enter your PC, stand guard at every possible entrance of your computer, and fend off any spyware or viruses that try to enter, even the most damaging and devious strains.
But unlike common spyware, say experts, kruegerware contains extremely complex coding that allows the programs to avoid detection by defensive \"anti-spyware\" programs. And much like conventional computer viruses, some particularly robust strains of kruegerware even contain routines that will automatically reinstall the malicious programming if it has been removed from an infected PC.
\"The lines between security threats and privacy threats are starting to blur because virus writers have figured out they can make a living off of [spyware],\" says Christine Stevenson, vice president of Webroot Software Inc., an anti-spyware maker in Boulder, Colo. \"There is big money to be made in adware.\"
According to SpywareInfo.com, a Web site run by a Dutch anti-spyware tracker named Merjin Bellekom, a particularly offensive case of kruegerware is tied to Cool Web Search, an alternative Web search engine reportedly based in Russia. By some accounts there are already more than 30 different versions of kruegerware that will force users to the Cool Web Search site. And each version has its own unique coding that will resurrect the program if it is detected and removed by the user.
Several states, such as Utah, have already passed legislation banning spyware or programs that secretly monitor a computer user's activities. And in June, several U.S. congressional committees proposed various similar anti-spyware bills that would include prison sentences for spyware users. None of the bills, however, has made it beyond the various judiciary and commerce committees.
Install anti-spyware software. But be advised that no one anti-spyware software has been totally effective in stopping all kruegerware or even less-offensive spyware. You may have to install and use several different programs from several different makers.
Seek help on the Web. If you do become infected by kruegerware or other pieces of spyware, use an unaffected computer to search the Web for answers and other help. A simple search for \"spyware\" or \"kruegerware\" will direct you to Web sites such as SpywareInfo.com that offer software tools and step-by-step instructions on removing the offending software.
Spy Sweeper is a software product that detects and removes spyware and viruses (if the optional anti-virus component is installed) on personal computers that run Microsoft Windows. It is sold by Webroot Software.
Webroot offers two versions of Spy Sweeper: a zero-cost 'spy scan' offering real-time protection from spyware, and a full version that allows for the removal of spyware. Licenses for the full version cost around US$30 each, which can be used for one year on one computer, or $40 for two years. Webroot also sells multiple-license subscriptions, allowing users to install their product on multiple computers using a single subscription, by purchasing either single-user, three-machine, or enterprise licenses. 041b061a72
